My career in animation started way back in 1987, when a company called Tokyo Movie Shinsha was looking into hiring in-betweeners for a satellite studio they were planning to setup in the Philippines. From among the applicants from different universities that took the test, I became one of the 15 lucky students who were chosen to be trained in a the art of Japanese animation.
From there, my career took off and later on became a full pledged traditional hand drawn animator in 1989 when I joined Island Animation working mostly on a few French animated series.
In 1991, a previous animation director I’ve worked with, invited me to join him at Optima Digital where I got introduced to the world of post-production and television commercials. This also opened up the opportunity for me to be trained as one of the first few 3D animators in the Philippines at that time.
In 1995, I moved to Singapore where I have worked for various animation and post-production companies including VHQ.
During my stint with Bizarts Creative in 1999, I became involved in one of the very first 24- minute long 3D animated pilot for a series entitled "Rats 2099: The Young Heroes". My role ranged from storyboard artist to 3D animator. The project also sharpened my skills as a character designer, which involved conceptualizing all the characters that was showcased in the show.
Currently, I am teaching in one of the polytechnics here in Singapore, but still dabble on designing my own characters as well as the occasional sculpture and digital paintings.
